Toxicity Data: Alkaline Salts

Oral LD50 Rat 1280 mg/kg

IRRITATION DATA:

Skin : Human 250mg/24 hours : Severe

Skin : Rabbit 250 mg/24 hours : Severe

Acute Effects:

Swallowed:

Corrosive and poisonous if swallowed.

Causes burns to mouth, throat and stomach.

Ingestion can result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and/or convulsions.

Eyes:

Harmful to the eyes.

Corrosive

Permanent eye damage may occur.

Skin

Corrosive when in Contact with skin will result in severe burns

Inhaled:

Corrosive Dust.

Inhalation of dust will result in severe respiratory irritation.

Not considered a feature of normal use.

Chronic Effects:

Prolonged exposure to low concentrations is corrosive to skin, eyes and mucous membrane.

FIRST AID:

Swallowed:

Give water to drink. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING.

If vomiting occurs give further water to achieve effective dilution.

Contact Poisons Information Centre. If patient is not fully conscious do not give anything by mouth.

Eyes:

Immediately irrigate with copious quantity of water for at least 15 minutes.

Eyelids to be held open. Flood with water.

Seek urgent medical attention.

Skin:

Immediately wash affected areas with copious quantities of water.

Remove contaminated clothing and wash before re-use.

Seek urgent medical advice if effects persist.
