Acute Effects:

Swallowed:

May produce burning of esophagus and nausea due to alkaline nature.

Eyes:

May cause irritation and watering of the eyes.

Prolonged contact may cause irritation.

Skin

Practically non-harmful.

Repeated or prolonged skin contact may cause irritation.

Inhaled:

Will result in respiratory irritation.

Dusts should be avoided as for any industrial chemical.

FIRST AID:

Swallowed:

Give plenty of water or milk to drink.

Seek medical attention.

Eyes:

Flood eyes with water for at least 15 minutes.

Eyelids to be held open.

In all cases of eye contamination, it is a wise precaution to seek medical advice.

Skin:

Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly.

Wash contaminated clothing before storing/re-use.

If redness or irritation persists, seek medical attention.

Inhaled:

Remove victim from exposure. Avoid becoming a casualty.

If necessary seek medical advice.

Advice to Doctor:

Irrigate injured areas with 1% acetic acid to neutralise alkali.

Treat symptomatically.
